By Gillian Ballard
BRISBANE, Aug 30 AAP - Animal activists will protest tomorrow as part of an internationalday of action against the use of kangaroo leather.
They are targeting sporting goods manufacturer adidas asking the company to find amore viable humane alternative to kangaroo skin which is currently being used in someproducts.
Animal Liberation Queensland spokeswoman Cynthia Burnett said today the main purposeof the protest in Brisbane was to make people aware of the situation.
"The main purpose of tomorrow is to first of all let the public know what's going onand to let them know that we're calling on these companies to choose the humane alternative,"
Ms Burnett said.
They are also appealing to Ian Thorpe, as a representative of Australian athletes whohave contracts with adidas, to cancel their association with the company until they stopkilling kangaroos for their skin and use microfibre instead.
"We're calling on these companies to use the humane alternative, that is a syntheticfibre which is a microfibre," she said.
"It's apparently very strong, very durable, totally waterproof and it's a much morehumane option than leather, given the way the industry obtains leather at the moment."
